About this event

大家好!Hello everyone! 😊

We're introducing a new format for our Chinese Learning & Conversation Club: Chinese Study Hall & Language Exchange!

These biweekly sessions are designed to give everyone dedicated time to work on their personal Chinese learning goals, share what they've learned, and practice with fellow learners in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Whether you're just beginning to learn Mandarin, working through HSK materials, improving your conversation skills, or studying advanced Chinese, you're welcome to join us!

📚 How Our 2-Hour Sessions Work

1️⃣ Independent Study — First Hour (60 minutes)

We'll begin with quick introductions and share what we plan to study. Then everyone will have time to study independently using their own materials and at their own pace.

You can work on vocabulary, characters, grammar, reading, listening, writing, HSK preparation, or anything else related to your Chinese learning goals!

2️⃣ Group Sharing — 10–25 Minutes

After our independent study time, we'll come back together and take turns sharing:

• What we studied

• Something new or interesting we learned

• Anything we found challenging or would like to understand better

You're welcome to share in Mandarin or English, depending on your comfort level. The length of this portion will depend on how many people attend.

3️⃣ Partner or Small-Group Practice — Remaining 35–50 Minutes

We'll pair up or form small groups to explore what we've learned in more depth!

You can take turns explaining concepts to one another, quizzing each other on new vocabulary or characters, discussing reading passages, comparing translations, or practicing conversational Mandarin.

This is also an opportunity to ask questions, exchange learning strategies, and reinforce your knowledge by explaining something to someone else.

If you'd rather focus on speaking, you're welcome to simply practice conversation with your partner!

There's no assigned lesson or required activity. You and your partner can decide what you'd like to work on together.

🎒 What to Bring

• Your own Chinese study materials (textbooks, HSK materials, apps, articles, flashcards, etc.)

• A notebook, laptop, or tablet

• Headphones if you plan to practice listening

• A willingness to learn, share, and practice together!

📅 Upcoming Study Hall Sessions

🗓️ Our Regular Meeting Schedule

Our goal is to hold these study halls every other Wednesday from 4–6 PM whenever possible, depending on library room availability.

We'll schedule them on opposite weeks from our regular coffee shop conversation meetups, so you can participate in both!

☕ Coffee Shop Chats: Relaxed, social Mandarin conversation practice.

📚 Study Hall & Language Exchange: Focused independent study followed by group sharing and collaborative practice.

This way, we'll have opportunities to practice conversational Chinese while also making progress on our individual learning goals!

⚠️ Please double-check the date, time, and location of each event! We may occasionally need to meet on a different day, at a different time, or at another library depending on room availability.

💛 A Few Things to Know

This is a self-directed study group, not a formal Chinese class. Everyone is responsible for bringing their own study materials and working toward their own goals.

No teaching experience is necessary, and you don't need to prepare a lesson. Just come ready to study, share what you've learned, and practice with others!

All proficiency levels are welcome. Our goal is to create a friendly, encouraging environment where we can motivate one another, build confidence, and improve our Mandarin together.

期待和大家一起学习!一起加油!🇨🇳

Looking forward to studying together! Let's keep improving!
