- ➤ Jim Spiewak tracked grocery prices at Smiths during the week of Jan. 5, noting milk at $1.44, Wonder Bread at $3.69, eggs at $2.09 and beef around $5 per pound. His total of $22.34 was lower than at Harmons but higher than at Trader Joe's. KUTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Utah’s Trust Lands Permanent Funds will distribute a record $134 million to public schools for the 2026-27 school year. Alpine, Nebo, & Provo City school districts will receive $15.8 million, $7.9 million, and $2.7 million respectively as the fund grows 20% due to Amendment B. Daily Herald
- ➤ Utah’s school voucher program now serves over 14,600 students — up from 10,000 last year — and is managed online by Odyssey. The program remains in effect despite an April 2025 constitutional ruling while lawmakers appeal and officials work to speed up reimbursements for families’ expenses. KUTV

- ➤ The Great Salt Lake nears its record low today with the southern side at about 4,191.6 ft and the north slightly lower — officials say engineers may soon modify the railroad causeway to better manage salinity amid low snowpack and warming weather. The Salt Lake Tribune

- ➤ Morgan Scalley is set to lead Utes football as he fills coaching vacancies after Kyle Whittingham’s retirement, having hired new coordinators to maintain the team’s high-powered offense and rugged defense.
