  • Local Iranian-Americans in Cottonwood Heights expressed concern over Iran’s ongoing violent crackdown and gathered at Zeferan Cafe to hold on to their cultural traditions (including Persian cuisine). They continue to urge US officials to support those affected abroad.  FOX 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Utah Valley University president Astrid Tuminez will step down on May 1 to focus on family and personal pursuits after serving since 2018, with the school preparing for a smooth leadership transition.  Daily Herald

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Bankrate report showed long-term credit card debt rose, with 61% of users carrying balances for a year versus 53% in late-2024 and 31% in debt for three years; many cite emergency expenses. The Office of State Treasurer is offering financial wellness resources.  KUTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Utah lawmakers will debate several water bills during this legislative session aimed at addressing water shortages and tracking leaks. The proposals include a measure to exempt southwest water suppliers from a 40-year development rule – along with plans for enhanced cybersecurity at public water systems on Capitol Hill.  The Salt Lake Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • A 9-year-old Midvale girl named Avvy faces severe eczema flare-ups after her steroid cream treatment triggered topical steroid withdrawal. Local business owners and a credit union organized a fundraiser that provided a reverse osmosis water system (filtering 99% of toxins) to help manage her symptoms.  KUTV
