- ➤ A Utah credit expert warns that paid services claiming to boost credit scores by reporting rent, utility, and cellphone payments may not help buyers qualify for home loans. Al Bingham advises consumers to save their money since classic FICO scores do not consider these payments. KUTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Jan. 15, the State Board of Education met to review two proposals to cut the nearly $6 billion schools budget by 5%, including eliminating the Fits All voucher program + trimming arts, mental health and dual immersion programs; recommendations will then go to the Legislature. - ➤ UVU President Astrid Tuminez will step down at end of year after nearly seven years leading the university — she plans to start a new chapter. Mid Utah Radio
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Utah and the U.S. Forest Service signed a new 20-year agreement last Thursday at the Capitol to restore forests damaged by bark beetles, including in Manti-La Sal. The deal expands Utah's role in managing over 8 million acres to improve forest health and reduce wildfire risk. Mid Utah Radio
