- ➤ Spanish Fork native Chris Carroll rescued a woman during a shark attack while on vacation in St. Croix on Jan. 8. The registered nurse risked his safety to help her and later told a shark researcher about the incident + underscoring his lifelong commitment to aiding others. Daily Herald
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 2026 Lunar New Year Celebration will feature a Lion Dance parade at 6:00 PM starting at RC Willey and passing by Dillard's before reaching The Orchard for fireworks and treats from P.F. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Senate Education Committee recommended a bill that sets a state default to keep cell phones out of classrooms from the morning bell until dismissal. Sen. Lincoln Fillmore (who introduced the bill with Rep. Doug Wilson) said districts can still craft local exceptions despite some concerns. KUTV
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The Utah Legislature introduced House Bill 184 to boost starter home construction by allowing homes on smaller lots and requiring cities to respond within 30 days. The bill now awaits committee assignment as state estimates show 250k new starter homes are needed by 2030. Mid Utah Radio
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Eighty-one athletes with Utah ties will compete at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy beginning Friday, Feb. 6 plus the games run until Feb. 22, with many debuting while others bring past medal wins. KUTV
