COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents can take free photos with the Easter Bunny on Friday, Apr. 3, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the court by Warby Parker; extra photo sessions will be held on Saturday, Apr. 4, at The Orchard (attendees should keep sessions brief to allow everyone a turn).  University Place Orem

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Easter Bunny will make free appearances on Friday, April 3 (4:00-8:00 p.m. by Warby Parker) and Saturday, April 4 (12:00-4:00 p.m. at the south side of The Orchard) where families can take keepsake photos with help available for group shots and are asked to keep their photo time brief.  University Place Orem

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Utah are rising as the ongoing war in Iran contributes to higher costs. The state average for self-serve regular is $3.84 per gallon, with Beaver County at $4.05 and Daggett County at $3.57.  Mid Utah Radio
  • WalletHub ranked Utah 9th among America’s top 10 innovative states, citing strong STEM job growth and an innovative business climate — factors that promote human capital and benefit local communities.  Mid Utah Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Utah Valley University received a $500,000 donation to expand its CARE Hub program that connects students with essential resources. The funding was announced during the annual CARE About Families Luncheon at the Young Living Alumni Center.  Daily Herald
  • In fall 2024, Governor Spencer Cox signed a bell-to-bell law banning personal cellphone use during school hours to help students focus, connect and learn at local schools.  The Salt Lake Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Warm winter weather has kept bees active in Utah County, with beekeepers like Make Shaffer reporting increased hive activity and concerns about colony health. Apiary inspectors are checking hives earlier—concerned about the spread of American Foulbrood and potential water restrictions in summer.  FOX 13
  • A Special Avalanche Advisory has been in effect since Thursday, Mar. 19 and will remain through Sunday, Mar. 22 because record-high temperatures are destabilizing the snowpack across Utah’s mountains + recent avalanche incidents have led to several fatalities.  KJZZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Spencer Cox said he would not rule out a drought declaration if water shortages worsen—reservoirs are full while snowpack levels hit record lows, prompting water districts to plan cuts and Salt Lake City to move into Stage 2. Local groups are urging residents to conserve water ahead of any future restrictions.  FOX 13
