Good morning, Orem. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 25th of March.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Spencer Cox vetoed SB37 on Monday, arguing that diverting property tax dollars from local schools to the general fund sent the wrong message by risking future redirection away from education funding—he said the bill would also create accounting complications and erode the clear link between local taxes and school support. Education groups and state officials had urged the governor to reject the bill, and lawmakers may override the veto with a two-thirds vote in both houses.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • The Social Security Administration recently proposed changes that include cutting thousands of jobs and adding in-person identity checks, and Westminster University finance professor Richard Haskell said the proposals have limited impact on most individuals. He added that rumors of benefit cuts are just noise and recommended that people invest if they are young and work on paying down debt if they are older—offering different advice for different age groups.  FOX 13
