Utah lawmakers passed several bills to regulate artificial intelligence this session.
One law stops AI therapy chatbots from using or selling personal data and requires clear advertising, while another mandates that police reports made with AI include a review certificate—other bills addressing deepfakes and high-risk services will take effect on May 7 or await the governor's signature.
Utah leaders criticized Sundance Film Festival organizers for leaving the state after Thursday’s announcement; Gov. Spencer Cox said it was a mistake — he believes one day the organizers will regret leaving behind Utah’s heritage.
Park City Mayor Nann Worel and Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson expressed deep disappointment — noting that decades of local cultural support were affected.
