Good morning, Orem. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 29th of March.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Texas Instruments laid off workers at its Lehi facility on Friday, March 28th as part of operational changes following an award of up to $1.61 billion in federal CHIPS Act funding. The company said it will build a second semiconductor plant in Lehi and add 800 high-tech jobs for future growth (the layoffs did not require a WARN Act notice).  The Salt Lake Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Spencer Cox signed the Earned Wage Access Services Act that requires app providers to register and follow consumer-protection rules, and more than 7 million workers used these apps in 2022. • During an earlier meeting, the Alpine School District Board unanimously voted to issue a $238M lease revenue bond to fund a new high school in Saratoga Springs and an elementary school in Eagle Mountain—this step comes after concerns about overcrowding and the upcoming district split.
