EDUCATION NEWS

  • Utah State University and other schools will cut more than two dozen majors and several staff positions as mandated by a new law that slashes nearly $60 million in funding for public higher education. • A new state law will take effect May 7 and will ban seclusion for kindergarten students, stopping schools from using small padded rooms for behavior emergencies—this rule protects young children—while allowing seclusion for older students only when they pose an immediate safety risk for up to 30 minutes. The law will also require schools to report seclusion details annually as lawmakers continue to address this issue.  FOX 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Colorado River Authority of Utah launched the Demand Management Pilot Program to pay farmers up to $390 per acre foot to fallow crops — a measure that Price area producers say helps secure water for Lake Powell — and several have already signed up.
