ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 1, a hiker fell while climbing the north wall near Little Mill Campground in American Fork Canyon and was airlifted by Life Flight after suffering possible back injuries — officials said no further details were available.  ABC4

  • The LEGO Store at University Place will open on May 9 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.—the store will host play activities including a mystery mural LEGO brick building activity and a local LEGO Users Group display.   • Federal officials dropped their case with prejudice against Utah manufacturer Xlear after nearly four years of litigation over claims that its nasal spray with xylitol was falsely marketed to help treat COVID—Xlear called the decision a victory for its advertising, while consumer advocates warned it could weaken protections against misleading health claims.  The Salt Lake Tribune

  • A Provo man, 28-year-old Hunter Cade Madsen, was arrested and booked into Utah County Jail after a family member found two suspected pipe bombs and a container with gunpowder in his apartment, police said—he faces charges of felony recklessness with an incendiary device and is held without bail.  ABC4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 3.9 magnitude earthquake shook Wasatch and Utah counties last night with over 3,000 people feeling it near Independence, and the tremor reached areas as far as Ogden and Spanish Fork (US Geological Survey).  ABC4

  • Mental health challenges like anxiety, ADHD and rising suicide rates are now the leading cause of death for young people in Utah. A recent legislative audit found barriers to care such as ghost providers — lawmakers plan statewide mental health screenings in schools — and a mobile app called SafeUT is in high use.  Mid Utah Radio
