- ➤ Oremfest Orchards Jam will take place on June 4 at The Orchard at University Place. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ In Orem, the American Folk Ensemble will perform at America’s Freedom Festival with a mix of bluegrass, clog dancing, and folk dance, with kids’ activities starting at 5:00 p.m.—the main show begins at 7:00 p.m. The group has performed at over 70 international festivals since 1991 and will tour Germany and the Azores Islands later this year. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Utah State Legislature has filed a petition to appeal a lower court ruling that declared the Utah Fits All Scholarship unconstitutional. The appeal argues (by the Attorney General’s office) that the decision harms school funding for many families (while the program remains active during ongoing litigation). ABC4
- ➤ Representative Jefferson Moss will resign from the Utah House on May 30 to begin his role as interim executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity on June 2 pending Senate confirmation. Moss, who has served House District 51 since 2017 and held key leadership roles, will be succeeded by a special leadership election—his departure signals a new phase for state economic initiatives—soon. - ➤ Gov. Spencer Cox signed an executive order on January 21st that created the GRIT program, which requires every state office to propose ways to cut costs, save time and improve service delivery.
