- ➤ On May 12, a 17-year-old boy died in a motorcycle crash in American Fork Canyon when he lost control of his Honda on SR-92 (the road was closed for investigation) despite efforts by emergency crews, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. ABC4
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Orem police fatally shot Alejandro Demery on May 5 after he did not comply with orders during a drug warrant execution near 400 North—officers recovered a loaded handgun at the scene. KUTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Roy Green (a local buyer) paid 92 dollars for a Great Salt Lake license plate over a year ago but still has not received it; state officials said (616 people have paid) while lawmakers working on new license plate designs and laws promised the plate will be among the first released once the review is complete. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Parents of 17-year-old Biruk Silvers filed a wrongful death and medical malpractice suit in Utah’s 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City after he died by suicide at Discovery Ranch on Nov. 5, 2024. The suit claims he told staff of self-harm plans but was left unsupervised and allowed to keep a belt (a lapse the suit says contributed to his death) and names Discovery Ranch and other defendants (the University of Utah, Redcliff Ascent Inc., and Pilcrow Advisors) for negligence.
