CRIME NEWS

  • Preliminary hearings were held at the 4th District Courthouse in Provo for an American Fork woman accused of planning to kill her son-in-law when he was shot multiple times at her home on July 12 after Kathryn Restelli lured him there—Kathryn waived her hearing while Judge Roger Griffin will decide if the case goes to trial.  Daily Herald

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Utah's largest utility, Rocky Mountain Power, has until Tuesday to appeal a legislatively approved 4.7% rate increase that would add about $4 to the average customer's monthly bill—if no appeal is filed—while regulators pushed back on the company's original request for a 30% hike.  KUTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 21, Westlake High School seniors walked through their former elementary schools (Saratoga Shores, Thunder Ridge, and Harvest Hills) to reconnect with early memories before graduation. Sixth graders joined as parents cheered the event while they prepared to move on to junior high.  Daily Herald
  • At the Education Interim Committee meeting, Rep. Tiara Auxier expressed concerns that 15 minutes may not be enough for students to eat their lunch at Utah schools—lawmakers voted unanimously to include a review of best practices for school meal times.   • Farmers and ranchers in 17 Utah counties are invited to apply for drought relief loans after Governor Cox issued an emergency declaration for southern Utah last month due to severe drought conditions — the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food announced Tuesday that low-interest loans are available under the Emergency Disaster Relief program.  Mid Utah Radio
