ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Seantae Jackson recounted her family's head-on collision while traveling from Utah to Wyoming two summers ago—she said the crash changed their lives and urged drivers to buckle up as authorities warn of heavy travel this holiday weekend.  FOX 13
  • Motorcycle fatalities in Utah increased over 80% compared to last year, with a recent crash on Thursday in which a rider hit a deer and was run over by another vehicle. Public safety officials urge riders+drivers to wear proper gear and take safety courses as the dangerous trend continues into the holiday season.  KJZZ

CRIME NEWS

  • A Magna man known as Pablo was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty on Dec. 11 to running a drug trafficking enterprise that moved methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine from California and Mexico into Utah — he must also serve 10 years of supervised release — and forfeit over $300k, three firearms, and two vehicles.  ABC4

CULTURE NEWS

  • Billy Joel canceled his Utah concert at Rice-Eccles Stadium on May 22 because his health is at risk from a brain condition called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus—recent shows made his symptoms worse. Those with tickets will receive automatic refunds.  FOX 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Authorities are urging drivers to be cautious during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer since most highway deaths occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day—92 people died last year. The Utah Highway Patrol will conduct DUI blitzes this weekend—other safe driving operations are planned for later in the summer.  Mid Utah Radio
  • Utah County leaders say they are planning a land swap with the U.S. Forest Service to make Bridal Veil Falls safer—after two recent search and rescue missions this Memorial Day weekend. Their plan would move bikes onto a bridge so that visitors can safely use a closer walking area and enjoy improved trails, though no timeline is set yet.  FOX 13
