COMMUNITY NEWS

  • American Legion Post 28 began construction of a Veterans Wall of Honor at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville on Monday, May 25 with local officials + musicians + military representatives; the granite panels will honor around 2,350 veterans from Springville and Mapleton with completion planned by early next year.  Daily Herald

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A wildfire broke out north of Birdseye on Thursday and threatened 15 acres and nearby structures as crews responded to the Anderson Point Fire (details on the impacted structures remain unconfirmed).  FOX 13
  • On Thursday, May 28, firefighters quickly put out a fast-moving grass fire near State Street that forced an evacuation of a Provo apartment, causing minor damage to a few vehicles while investigators work to determine its cause.  KUTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Families with children (18 and younger) can get free summer breakfast and lunch from state food assistance programs at local schools and community centers across Utah. State officials say the program is set to help families facing high grocery costs without needing registration.  Mid Utah Radio

  • Utah recyclers warn that improperly disposed lithium-ion batteries in everyday devices caused fires last year and continue to pose risks if not handled safely (local experts advise checking with waste divisions for proper recycling).
