CRIME NEWS

  • Two 18-year-olds, Tyler Shad Janeway and Aiden Jay Fullenwider, are charged with felony aggravated assault after a canyon fight on June 1 that left a young adult with severe head and abdomen injuries and hospitalized—Janeway also faces charges for using a fake ID to purchase alcohol before the fight.  ABC4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Odyssey, the new manager of the Utah Fits All voucher program, has restarted the application process because the information from the previous manager—ACE Scholarships—was incomplete and inconsistent. Families will receive an updated timeline on Thursday as the state reviews eligibility and scholarship balances.  The Salt Lake Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • As temperatures rise, energy experts advise Orem residents to wait until evening to cook and run appliances, seal gaps around windows and doors, schedule an annual AC tune-up, and install a programmable thermostat + close blinds and slightly raise the thermostat to cut energy bills. The Department of Energy states that raising the thermostat by eight degrees for eight hours can lower AC expenses by up to 10 percent.  FOX 13
  • Local water districts are asking residents to reduce outdoor watering as recent data shows a 15% rise in use compared to last year. The Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District (recommending watering lawns only twice a week) said conservation now will allow water to be sent to the Great Salt Lake in the fall (a measure to protect supplies).  FOX 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brigham Young University was added to Russia's undesirable list, banning the school and its affiliates from operating there and exposing them to criminal charges. This decision followed a February 6 event at BYU called Russia as a Global Threat where a U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state discussed Russian policies.  The Salt Lake Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Utah Valley will join the Big West Conference for the 2026-27 athletic year after leaving the Western Athletic Conference and will compete in 13 sports programs. The move gives the league its first state presence since Utah State ended its 27-year run+ Utah Valley becomes the largest member with 47,000 students.  KJZZ
