- ➤ A new Kids Count report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation shows Utah was ranked fourth for overall child well-being based on measures like economy, education, health and family support. Child poverty dropped from 10% to 8%—but the study said improvements are needed in health coverage, housing costs and school funding. KJZZ

- ➤ An 8-year-old Orem boy suffered third-degree burns on May 18 after microwaving a squishy ball following a social media trend—he spent 18 days in the burn center and underwent two surgeries before returning home with a protective vest, with his family warning parents to be cautious. FOX 13

- ➤ On Monday, a Utah County therapist named Kevin White was arrested for grooming a 26-year-old client and touching her in ways she did not agree to as he made her fear he would harm himself if she reported him—he also charged her for sessions without proper licensing for Ketamine treatment and paid her $1,400 to stay quiet. - ➤ Attorneys for death row inmate Ralph Menzies filed an appeal with the Utah Supreme Court after Judge Bates ruled that despite his vascular dementia he is not incompetent for execution — a decision that follows Attorney General Derek Brown’s motion to lift the stay. A hearing is set for July 9th at 11 a.m. — where the court will review the motion that could allow his firing squad execution for the 1986 murder to proceed. KUTV

- ➤ Officials with the Division of Wildlife Resources euthanized a bear that roamed a Nordic Valley neighborhood and tried to enter several homes on Saturday, June 7 — it had lost its fear of people. The division urged residents to secure their garbage and pet food to lessen future bear attractions. KJZZ

- ➤ Downwinders and advocates urged Utah congressional leaders to reinstate the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act that expired on June 10 because nuclear tests in the 1950s led to illnesses and deaths in the region—Mary Dickson and others say expanding the act is long overdue for justice.
