Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 19th of June.
Good morning, Orem.
🎓 Education
FIRE, a free speech advocacy group, sent a letter to the Utah State Board of Education demanding that school officials revise the guidance that bans students from bringing personal copies of banned books to class—arguing the policy violates their First Amendment rights.
The group requested a substantive response by June 30 and warned of possible legal action if the guidance is not changed.
🏛️ Government
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 8-0 that regional courts, not D.C., should hear challenges to EPA rules after Utah sued the agency over its rejected emissions-control plans.
State officials said the decision supported local control of air quality — ensuring future cases are decided closer to home.
