Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 29th of June.
Good morning, Orem.
🏘️ Community
Since yesterday, Utah Valley has been hosting a wide range of community events across cities like Orem, Provo, and Lehi, and many more activities are planned through July 6.
The schedule features art festivals, sports tournaments, parades, and concerts with local highlights such as Orem’s African Heritage Festival on June 28 and Provo’s Grand Parade on July 4.
💼 Business
Christina Owens, a Saratoga Springs resident who overcame an abusive marriage, opened a second location for her massage therapy business at Sleepy Ridge Clubhouse in Orem on Tuesday, June 24.
She offers monthly complimentary services for abuse survivors and plans to train single mothers in massage therapy—continuing her work to help those in need.
🏛️ Government
Sen. Mike Lee pulled a land sales rule from his bill on Saturday, June 28 after community leaders and environmental groups said it lacked safeguards to sell public lands only to American families—he said their concerns guided his move.
The rule would have let millions of acres near Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon and national parks be sold, and its removal shows strong pushback on federal land management—critics worry about losing key natural spaces.
