Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 30th of June.
Good morning, Orem.
🎓 Education
Three districts set to replace Alpine School District in 2027 (Aspen Peaks, Lake Mountain, and Timpanogos) signed a resource distribution agreement last week that directs the retention of school funds and benefits while unassigned funds will be allocated based on June 30 enrollment figures. The deal ensures staff vacation hours and retirement benefits follow them into the new districts.
🌲 Environment
Utah passed a law in 2025 allowing plug-in solar systems that let renters, condo owners, and others generate power without utility permission (UL 3700 is still under review), and experts say the delay in certification is keeping systems from widespread use.
Lawmakers urge UL to speed up standards so more residents can lower their energy bills.
