The Utah Insurance Dept said fraudulent auto insurance policies are being marketed to Utah’s Hispanic community via WhatsApp+word-of-mouth, putting buyers at risk of losing money and having their vehicle registrations revoked+officials are investigating an unlicensed agent who sold hundreds of these policies.

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray said in Provo that if Douglas Stewart Carter is convicted of murder again the state will seek the death penalty—Carter, originally sentenced in 1985 before his conviction was vacated due to legal issues, is scheduled to appear briefly in 4th District Court today.

Fire safety expert Dan Walton (DNR Tooele County Fire Warden) said that target shooters using hot steel bullets and homemade explosive devices have started 28 wildfires in Tooele and Utah counties, including a fire that destroyed several RVs last weekend near a gun range.

He warned that dry grass catches fire easily from 1,800-degree metal and urged shooters to change their behavior.

Residents in Orem will start receiving their primary election ballots in the mail this week, though Pioneer Day may delay delivery so some ballots may arrive as late as Friday.

Voters must return ballots by 8 p.m. on Election Day and can also vote early in person (Aug. 4-8, Aug. 11).

Recent legislation enacted in May required permits for access in wildlife areas, and Utah DWR collaborated with the Division of Outdoor Recreation to let hikers, bikers, and dog walkers use the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in the Timpanogos WMA using a special use permit—users must remain on designated trails.
