COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Utah mom Sarah Parson runs Dolls of Hope, a nonprofit that hand-stitches stuffed animals for refugee children in 52 countries—her creations have comforted over 100,000 kids. She started the project in 2016 after hearing about Syrian refugees and continues to make each toy with care so every child feels loved.  ABC4

CRIME NEWS

  • In Eagle Mountain, a pitbull mix killed two goats from the city’s new brush clearing program on Friday morning— the dog's owner was issued a criminal citation by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.  ABC4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A BYU professor is using decades of research into native landscapes to create wildflower meadows at Rock Canyon that lower wildfire risks near Orem — the project will begin seeding this fall and builds on similar work in Heber City. More than 20,000 visitors use the canyon each month, and the new approach is expected to help wildlife thrive.  FOX 13
  • Workers from the Division of Wildlife Resources used unique traps to remove carp from Utah Lake as part of a pilot project to restore the endangered June sucker and secure local water supplies—political leaders including Sen. Heidi Balderree and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson observed the project while harvested carp will be turned into fertilizer for farms.  FOX 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • USDA announced that Salt Lake City is one of five new hubs where some employees will need to relocate—no current jobs will be cut as the agency seeks to lower costs and get staff closer to customers. Local officials, including Gov. Spencer Cox and House Speaker Mike Schultz, praised the plan as it will boost support for agriculture and rural communities while changes roll out over the coming months.  The Salt Lake Tribune
