Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 2nd of August.
Good morning, Orem.
📰 Economy
Utah is bucking national job trends as its low unemployment and strong growth in health and education sectors are credited to a rising population and diverse industries, said Jared Mendenhall of the Department of Workforce Services—construction, business and leisure sectors also gained while retail opportunities declined. The state will update its job numbers on August 15.
🌲 Environment
Utah is under a month-long state of emergency as wildfire danger rises due to erratic weather from wildfires in Utah and Arizona—crews in Bountiful are cutting dry brush and dead trees near high-risk areas like Eggett Park.
State Forester Jamie Barnes urged homeowners to clear space around their properties while officials plan to update the wildfire risk maps in 2026.
