Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 3rd of August.
Good morning, Orem.
🌲 Environment
Fire danger remains high across much of Utah as a cold front moves through today, shifting winds from southwest to northwest on the Widemouth 2 Fire and bringing cooler temperatures along the Wasatch Front (falling from triple-digit heat to low 90s) before rising again by Thursday.
Heavy wildfire smoke is blanketing central Utah today from Salt Lake City to nearby valleys — experts say the fine particles can hurt kids, older adults and people with breathing problems, so residents may need to limit outdoor activities until conditions improve.
🏈 Sports
BYU soccer’s Blue team beat the White team 1-0 at South Field on Saturday night (30-minute halves were used because of the heat) and will host the Idaho State Bengals next Saturday at 7 p.m.
BYU hired Lewis Walker in February as the new cornerbacks coach and he is already boosting team energy.
The coach, a local product from Judge Memorial (and former player), expects his cornerbacks to show confidence and toughness during practices.
