Good morning, Orem. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 29th of August.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a mudslide formed on the Buckley Draw Fire burn scar in Provo, over 200 volunteers from the Bucket Brigade cleared a church parking lot on Nevada Avenue that was filled with 2-3 feet of mud and Provo Public Works trucks hauled off more than 13,000 tons of debris by Thursday afternoon—cleanup will continue over the next few days.  FOX 13

CRIME NEWS

  • A Springville High School teacher has received threats after being mistaken for a man arrested for assault at a West Valley City concert — he said the mix-up has put his family, students, and colleagues at risk and he is calling for more careful research before accusing him.  FOX 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Utah lawmakers will redraw the U.S. House maps by Sept. 24—while they plan to use every legal option available to contest rules that force them to follow Proposition 4. House Speaker Mike Schultz and Senate President Stuart Adams said the short deadline leaves little time for public input on redistricting.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Gov. Spencer Cox co-chaired a housing action plan that gives local officials tried solutions for affordable homes—like a starter home program repurposing state funds—in response to cuts in federal support. State and local leaders will use measures such as increased small lot density and pre-purchased modular homes to ease the housing crisis.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • UDOT warned that ongoing construction in Spanish Fork Canyon will cause moderate travel delays for Labor Day travelers, with westbound traffic on U.S. Highway 6 facing up to a 30-minute delay from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday and eastbound travelers experiencing up to 10 extra minutes between 2 and 6 p.m.—drivers are urged to follow work-zone speed limits.  Daily Herald
