Good morning, Orem. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 23rd of September.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Utah Valley University announced a committee to build a memorial for Charlie Kirk, who was shot on campus. Board chairs Scott M. Smith and Amanda Covington lead the group, which includes students, political leaders, and key community members—working with local officials to create a respectful plan.  KUTV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Road debris has caused hundreds of crashes on Utah roads—one person died on I-15 and a teenage girl was impaled by rebar—with officials reporting that incidents are common, noting nine fatalities since 2021 and urging motorists to call 9-1-1 for unsecured loads.  KUTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Utah lawmakers introduced five proposed maps to redraw the state's four congressional districts. A special session will vote on the new plan on Oct. 6 — after a hearing on Sept. 24 and 10 days of public comment — so it can be used for the 2026 midterm elections.  KJZZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Utah builders are using the new Vibe Board to save money and avoid costly design changes by helping homeowners, contractors, and designers work together. More than 1,200 builders — including Raykon Construction — use the tool to spot issues early and keep quality high.  KJZZ
  • The Fed cut rates last week to a range of 4—4.25% and signaled more cuts, though experts warned that lower rates may not drop mortgage costs or home prices in Utah as home supply remains tight. Homebuilders like Oakwood Homes expect more buyer interest and plan to expand construction if market conditions shift.  The Salt Lake Tribune
