ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ An evacuation notice was issued for residents after a wildfire dubbed the Cherry Fire ignited in Hobble Creek Canyon on Oct. 2 and burned 150 acres east of Springville and Mapleton—crews from Mapleton, State, and Utah County fire departments worked to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The government shutdown has paused non-essential work and furloughed many employees while Utah’s national parks remain open but visitor centers are closed — impacting tourism, outdoor recreation, and travel — and social programs are still running though future funding is at risk. KUTV
- ➤ Many federal services shut down yesterday due to the government shutdown—national parks including Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion remained open with reduced staffing as law enforcement managed shuttles, trash pickup and restroom access.
