COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Utah Food Bank said demand is high as nearly half a million Utahns face hunger and one in five children comes home from school hungry—factors driven by rising food prices and the recent shutdown. Volunteers help at over 300 pantries across 29 counties, and its Human Race Fun Run will take place today in Sandy to raise funds for hunger relief.  KUTV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A small aircraft carrying four made an emergency landing at Provo Airport Monday just before 3 p.m., triggering a runway closure for several hours—firefighters extinguished a fire, one person was taken to Utah Valley Hospital, and several flights were delayed.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Innerbody ranked Utah as the second-most festive state using Google Trends data from searches such as Christmas Lights and Gingerbread House—West Virginia ranked first. This marks the second straight year Utah earned the silver ranking.  FOX 13
  • Utah author Fay Klingler, known for her award-winning inspirational books for adults, now writes children’s books inspired by her 40 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Her new stories turn personal challenges like hearing loss into lessons that celebrate family bonds—crafted for young readers.  KUTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two environmental groups, Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment (UPE) and Utah Rivers Council, released a report warning that toxic dust from the Great Salt Lake poses a public health risk and could cost billions in cleanup if stronger action is not taken. The report noted that dust from 800 square miles of exposed lakebed carries toxins (heavy metals and PFAS) that threaten local industries and residents' health.  The Salt Lake Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that certain Rad Power Bikes may have lithium-ion batteries that can ignite or explode even when not in use—31 fire reports prompted the alert. Rad Power Bikes said it cannot replace batteries due to financial issues and urged owners to remove and dispose of batteries safely.  KUTV
