- ➤ United Way of Utah County is asking residents to volunteer for Sub for Santa as it fulfills wish lists for nearly 2,700 families in need this final week before Christmas. Volunteers help shop and sort gifts — and more help is needed to ensure every child gets essential items. FOX 13
- ➤ Spencer and Camilla, a homeless family living in a trailer, are seeking community help through United Way's Sub for Santa program to provide Christmas gifts for their 5-year-old son Trevor. Donations are welcome to help cover gifts such as a monster truck, books, and warm clothes. Daily Herald
- ➤ University Place will host a New Year’s Photo Op in Center Court by the customer service desk from Monday, Dec. 29 to Saturday, Jan. 3. Free public parking is provided and events are subject to weather conditions. University Place Orem
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ State water commissioners met in Las Vegas to discuss measures for the Colorado River — Utah’s Gene Shawcroft said the group is exploring a five-year deal amid differences between Upper and Lower Basin states. The talks continue as water levels in major reservoirs drop. FOX 13

- ➤ Dave Nellis of America First Credit Union advises Orem shoppers to set a spending plan by making a list and bringing only the cash they plan to spend +this approach helps avoid store credit traps+ to keep holiday expenses in check. FOX 13

- ➤ Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands released a new Wildland Urban Interface Map showing about 60,000 structures in wildfire-prone areas (House Bill 48 mandate) to help communities prepare for fees starting Jan. 1 and to guide insurers to use the state map for coverage adjustments.
