Improv 101 with Zach Atherton

You don't have to be funny. You just have to show up.

Four Monday nights of games, scenes, and the few simple rules that make improv work. No experience. No audition. Just a room full of people who also thought they couldn't do this.

Mondays, Nov 9, 16, 23 and 30

7:15 to 9:15 pm

ImprovBroadway, 496 N 900 E, Provo

$100 for all four weeks. Buddy Pass: 2 seats for $180. Only 20 seats. Ages 18+.

Every student also gets 2 free tickets to any Friday or Saturday ImprovBroadway show, so bring someone to see what you're learning.

What you'll learn

• Week 1: Yes, And. Listening, agreeing, and building together.

• Week 2: Who, what, where. Starting a scene from nothing.

• Week 3: Characters who want something.

• Week 4: Finding the game of the scene.

Questions

I'm not funny. Perfect. Trying to be funny is the fastest way to be bad at improv. We teach listening, and the funny shows up on its own.

I'm shy. So are most beginners. You'll start in a big circle, not alone in a spotlight.

Do I have to perform? Only for your classmates. There's no public performance.

Am I too old? No. Improv works at any age.

What do I wear? Something you can move in.
